Uptane-Secured In-Vehicle Software Update Systems

AutomotiveOTA defines the engineering implementation of the Uptane security standard for connected vehicles. By decoupling the Image and Director repositories, streaming asymmetric byte-level differential deltas, and enforcing a two-phase commit protocol across distributed ECUs, it achieves zero-downtime updates with mathematically proven compromise resilience.

Preventing Server Compromise and Mitigating In-Transit Man-in-the-Middle Attacks

Traditional consumer OTA systems rely on simple TLS connections from a single cloud server. If that server is compromised, attackers can push malicious firmware to millions of vehicles simultaneously. Uptane eliminates this single point of failure by requiring separate cryptographic signatures from both an offline OEM Image repository and an online fleet Director repository, ensuring vehicles never install unsigned or mismatched firmware.
